On the 13th of September primary schools around the world will be having a very marvellous time, for the Dahlicious Dress Up Day. This fantastic event is a chance for kids to dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character, and is in aid of the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which provides the best standard of healthcare to seriously ill children. So don’t be alarmed if in September you see a small (literally) army of Twits, Foxes and Crocodiles roaming the streets – it’s for a brilliant cause!

As all of Roald Dahl’s books are so entertaining, it might be difficult for your little one to choose their favourite, but we’re sure they’ll manage!

One of our favourites duos has got to be the truly horrid Mr Twit and Mrs Twit. When they’re not torturing each other or gluing children to trees, they’re looking great all dressed up for Roald Dahl day!

Another brilliant pair to dress up as is Matilda and Miss Trunchbull. These two couldn’t be more different, let’s just hope your child prefers playing with newts than spinning children round by their hair!

With the recent release of the Roald Dahl film, this BFG fancy dress costume is sure to be popular for a while to come. It even comes complete with a headband with giant ears – so there’s nothing stopping your kids from perfecting their Roald Dahl fancy dress.

Here at Joke.co.uk Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of our favourite Roald Dahl books, and what makes it even better is the brilliant characters there are to choose from to really nail that Roald Dahl Day look.

Of course, there’s the iconic Willy Wonka fancy dress costume, which comes complete with top hat and stuffed cane, and is perfect for any school fancy dress event.

Where would Willy Wonka be without his Oompa Loompas? These tiny orange people are there to keep the factory running smoothly, and to sing creepy songs about morality.  Although do expect your children to be repeating the Roald Dahl quote: “Oompa Loompa doompadee doo, I’ve got another puzzle for you” throughout the Dress Up Day!

Finally, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would be nothing without Charlie himself. This great Roald Dahl fancy dress costume even comes complete with a Golden Ticket, so your little one will feel like a winner.

If you’re all grown up, don’t worry, teachers get to join in on the fun too. There’s plenty of Roald Dahl costumes to choose from, although if you choose Miss Trunchbull, we’re slightly worried about your teaching style!

Willy Wonka

Keeping in theme with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is the adult version of Willy Wonka, based on the classic Roald Dahl movie starring the late, great Gene Wilder. It’s everything you’ll need to really get into the spirit of the Dahlicious Dress Up Day.

Oompa Loompas don’t need to be small with these adult costumes. Choose from either the women or men’s costume, and apply orange face paint liberally.

If you do fancy scaring the students all day, Miss Trunchbull is the perfect choice. This mean spirited, horrid teacher is sure to cause a lot of laughs with the kids – as long as you don’t put anyone in the chokey!

So there you have it, our favourite fancy dress choices to really enjoy the wonderful author Roald Dahl’s work, whilst also doing something brilliant for charity. We hope you have a wonderful Dahlicious Dress Up Day.
